family time // heading east

a couple weekends ago we headed to manitoba to spend a night with some great friends that we love but don’t see nearly often enough. we packed in a lot of playing/ visiting and catching up into our short time that weekend. that included being fascinated and in awe of their super cool chickens. best thing of all though, i love the fact that there are certain people that even though you don’t see often enough you can just pick up exactly where you left off last time + feel just as close as ever.

nourish // chocolate milkshakes

when you’ve got lots and lots of fresh milk from your jersey cow, what else are you supposed to do but make chocolate milkshakes?! we sometimes make them with ice cream but for a healthier take on a chocolate milkshake this is a super awesome guilt-free treat.

i don’t have any exact measurements so i’ll tell you what ingredients we use and you can make your own version.

  • milk
  • frozen bananas (the secret ingredient that thickens the shake up & adds some sweetness)
  • cacao nibs
  • a few dates
  • a splash of maple syrup
sip & enjoy!

garden // seed order has arrived

am i completely crazy to be excited when a parcel arrives in the mail with seeds for the garden?! it is going to be very hard for me to be patient to get planting. we have started a few things indoors (herbs + a few other things) so we’ll see if we can get things growing and healthy! when i tried to move my herbs indoors after last summer i killed them all pretty much immediately so the track record so far isn’t  great…….

family time // weekend in minot

the past few months have been c.r.a.z.y. on the farm so we haven’t done anything really as far as family time away.  the really cool thing about not going away super often is when you do it is truly an event! we were so excited for our little getaway to minot it wasn’t even funny! no, it wasn’t exotic and tropical but it was time together and that was what made it fun.

stopping at interesting towns to tour around, super addicting frozen yogurt, crazy fun waterslides, ordering in pizza late at night and a bit of shopping…. it was just what we needed.

the quote of the weekend from maya: “mommy please don’t start saying all those things you say at home…..” dramatic pause then:

“get your jammies on”

“brush your teeth”

“hurry up”

“time for bed”

i think we passed the test with flying colors…. we were very relaxed about bedtime routines while away so i guess the weekend was a success!

here is a few of the instax photos we took. there is something exciting about the instant gratification of watching a print develop right before your eyes that makes it rather addicting.
